4. Children’s Privacy (COPPA Compliance)
BecomeTheQB is designed to serve young athletes, including children under 13 years of age. We comply with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and take the following measures:
- Parental consent required: accounts for children under 13 must be created by a parent or legal guardian. By creating an account for a child, the parent or guardian provides verifiable consent for the collection and use of the child’s information as described in this policy.
- Verifiable parental consent: after account creation, we send a confirmation email to the parent’s email address. This email describes the data we collect, how we use it, and how to revoke consent. Parents can revoke consent and request data deletion at any time from Account Settings.
- Limited data collection: we collect only the minimum information necessary to provide the Service to child users:
- QB profile first name and age group
- QB assessment answers (experience level, goals, position history)
- Lesson and curriculum progress
- Quiz question attempts and spaced repetition data
- Confidence self-assessments
- Practice check-ins (daily completion, quality ratings)
- Reflections and journal entries (free-text responses)
- Interactive tool results
- Skill proficiency states
- Badge awards and achievement data
- Daily rep session responses
- No behavioral advertising: we do not use children’s data for targeted advertising.
- Parental access and control: parents or guardians may review or modify their child’s personal information at any time. To permanently delete a QB profile and all associated data, go to your account settings.
- No public-facing profiles: children’s profile information is not publicly visible. Leaderboard display uses only QB profile names, not real names or email addresses.
